What is your prayer routine? I have to admit, mine is not very impressive when compared to Brandon Vogt's! The fact that he engages his small children is award-winning parenting.
Here is my night time ritual that I do before I go to sleep:
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirt ... Amen.
Lord, I ask your precious blood protection on this house, on the garage (it's been broken into many times but not since adding it to my prayer!) and the five of us. Lord if there is anything or anyone in this house that isn't of you, from you or for you, I take authority over it in the name of Jesus and bind it and rebuke it to the foot of Your Cross. Amen.
Now I mention my personal intentions for my husband, children, myself, and friends. I also mention what I'm grateful for that day whether it's a major happening or a small incident that I was privy to witness or experience.
If I'm struggling with something, I will ask God's help.
Sometimes random people will come to mind, so I will pray for them.
Now I keep repeating the Hail Mary:
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Bless are thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our deaths. Amen.
By then, I'm pretty much asleep.
I used to say the rosary every night and unfortunately, I've gotten out of the habit ... again, so it's probably time to reincorporate that. No excuses.
I try to read my Magnificat every day. I say "try" because sometimes I see it on my nightstand or lamp table and I realize I haven't picked it up in several days. When it first comes, I read the articles I'm most interested in right away. My favorite is Heather King's Credible Witness.
During the day, I don't have a set routine. When the Spirit moves me, I turn in prayer whether it's at home or at work. A few words of gratitude for something or asking for God's help in a situation (I work in customer service, so this is an often-used prayer) is more of a routine for me than sitting down and saying a formal prayer.
My husband and I practice what we'll sing for the vigil Mass on the weekend nearly every evening. He pointed out that our "practice" would be considered having prayer time as a family.
What is your prayer routine? Do you have a set ritual or are you praying when the Spirit moves you? Do you have a favorite prayer that you pray regularly that you would like to share?
