Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children

Today, January 22, is the day established by the church as a day of penance for abortion.  It is officially called, "Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children."

In today's liturgy the Collect reads:

God our Creator, we give thanks to you, who alone have the power to impart the breath of life as you form each of us in our mother's womb; grant, we pray, that we, whom you have made stewards of creation, may remain faithful to this sacred trust and constant in safeguarding the dignity of every human life. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Before my conversion I was pro-abortion.  Had I become pregnant during that time that would have been the choice I would have made.  It's what we all did back then.  My friends made that choice during that time and they grieve for those children to this day.

After my conversion, I remained pro-abortion for some time.  It wasn't until my husband and I saw the ultra-sound of our nine-week old daughter waving to us that my heart changed.  It is something neither one of us will ever forget.
