Sometimes I think we complicate Lent. At least I do. I over think it, over plan for it and take on way too many things that I never seem to accomplish.
This year, I'm keeping it much simpler. I dug deep into my resolve and eliminated all sweets. I've been using yogurt, fresh fruit and granola to make sundaes to kind of take the edge off. So far it's worked. The added bonus? I lost three pounds that first week! Who knew that Lent would be the successful way to diet?
I attend Mass regularly with my husband and our friend. We're the choir for Saturday's 5 PM Mass at St. Thérèse Chinese Catholic Church. We also sang the first Friday Stations of the Cross and said the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy. Did you know that you receive a plenary indulgence for praying the Stations? I'm hoping to attend Stations again and possibly get a weekday Mass in.
Lent is always viewed as "giving something up" and sacrificing. There's nothing wrong with that old tradition, but I like the idea of adding things. Attending a weekday Mass, attending the Stations of the Cross on Friday, praying the Rosary (if you don't already) are all things that can only enhance our relationship with God and with others.
