"Don't let the Targets or the Macys tell you what Christmas is about." That's what I heard the priest say at Mass this first Sunday of Advent.
He's right. As Catholics and Christians, we've allowed society to dictate to us what Christmas is all about. How did we get to this point?
It's not about Black Friday. It's not about sales and deals or trampling our fellow humans. It's not about gift-giving or spending money. It's not about driving from mall to mall or leaving Thanksgiving dinner early to rush out and shop. It's not about the latest toy or the latest electronic game counsel. It's not about stuff.
As this priest wisely pointed out, "Christmas is not about a what, but about a Who."
