Today Pope Francis leads fasting and prayer day for Syria. This is daunting for me. I used to be able to fast with no problem, but after my third pregnancy, I could no longer do it without a great deal of difficulty.
I am in good company. The Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen also had difficulty fasting and never required anyone who came to him for confession to do it as penance.
Prayer and fasting is a powerful combination for any intention. This morning I gave up breakfast, but as I finish this, I'll break for lunch. Dinner is going to be difficult, too. You see, it's my husband's birthday and we will probably celebrate in a small way the birth of the man who brought me to the Church.
I hope that you will participate in this powerful intention, however you are able.
