Turning Off the Car Radio and Listening to God

A few years ago, while I was on retreat, a nun spoke about turning off her car radio so she could listen to God. I'm rarely in my car more than 15 minutes at a stretch, but her words intrigued me and I started turning the radio off and keeping it off.

What happened was I found myself praying. Not formal prayers like the Our Father or the Hail Mary, but just snippets of intentions for family, friends and co-workers. Sometimes I'd even pray for myself.

Fr. Pontifex found that keeping the radio off was a sacrifice for him, but it opened his ears to the sounds of his car and what was wrong with it. I have a husband for that!

Lent isn't over yet. Turning off the radio and listening to God might be just the thing you (and your car!) might need.
