What are you giving up for Lent? Are you giving up candy? Chocolate in particular? TV? The Internet (gasp!)? Or are you going to add something? Maybe spending more time in prayer, attending Stations of the Cross or Eucharistic Adoration?
One year my daughter gave up Facebook. For a twenty-something, this is tough. And to be honest, it would be very hard for me to give up the internet.
Last year I didn't "give up" anything. I tried to add. My husband and I attended stations every week and I tried to read things that were geared toward the Lenten season. This year I've decided to do a combination of giving up things and adding things.
This year, I am going to give up the "sweets." I know. It's old, but Lord knows I love my chocolate and denying myself that will be good.
I will be giving up the internet. Sort of. I love to shop, especially on the internet, so there will be none of that. I've already unsubscribed to emails of some of my favorite sites. I've also deleted some of my "wish lists." This is key, because if it's on sale ... I'M DOOMED!
I will still read, but I will also try and finish what I read. I have a bad habit of picking up a book (or my Nook) and then some where along the way, abandoning said book (or Nook) and not finishing. I have no idea why I do this, but it happens mostly during Lent. I pick out something get halfway through and then realize (long after Lent) that I never finished.
I'm also looking for fresh ideas. What do you do during Lent? Do you give up things, add things ...?
