In today's Gospel, Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth who is pregnant with John the Baptist. Moved by the Holy Spirit, Elizabeth blurts out:
"Most blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
And how does this happen to me,
that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears,
the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
Blessed are you who believed
that what was spoken to you by the Lord
would be fulfilled."
When I read this I immediately thought of my husband's elderly cousin who we will be visiting next week. Her husband recently passed and she seems anxious to speak to my husband.
Who will you visit during this Christmas season? Who do you need to visit this Christmas season?
Sometimes gift-giving is not a present wrapped in a box, but your own presence to someone who needs to see you.
