When I read Jimmy Akin's article, 10 Things You Need to Know About Advent, I was a little taken aback about how little I actually knew about Advent!

  1. What is the purpose of Advent?
  2. What liturgical colors are used for Advent?
  3. Is Advent a penitential season?
  4. When does Advent begin and end?
  5. What is the role of Sundays in Advent?
  6. What happens in weekdays in Advent?
  7. How are churches decorated in Advent?
  8. How is music performed in Advent?
  9. Is the Gloria sung or said in Advent?
  10. What private devotions can we use to get closer to God during Advent.

The only one I was absolutely certain of, was the elimination of the Gloria, and that's because I sing in the choir every week.  I knew the colors, but didn't know why they were used.  Sad but true.

By the time I got to the link about private devotions, I was exhausted!  Who knew Advent was so much work?

But waiting is a lot of work!  We have to prepare and not just the shopping, cleaning and cooking.  We have to prepare our spirits for the coming of our Lord!  We have to prepare our hearts.
