The New Anti-Catholicism: The Last Acceptable Prejudice

“It’s all about a sadistic Catholic nun and people who abuse and torture people in a Catholic asylum,” said Bill Donohue of The Catholic League about the new television show entitled:  American Horror Story:  Asylum.

And it's also about the acceptable practice of being prejudicial towards the Catholic Church.  Have you heard about the "PISS CHRIST?"

“Piss Christ” was a 1987 art exhibit that portrayed a crucifix in a jar of the artist’s urine. The depiction won an award that was sponsored and paid for by the federal government’s National Endowment for the Arts. The blasphemous exhibit will reappear in New York on Sept. 27, as part of an exhibit at the Edward Tyler Nahem gallery in Midtown Manhattan that runs through Oct. 26. - Bill Donohue

Can you imagine if either of these instances involved the Muslim religion?  There would probably be a boycott of the sponsors of the television show (though I doubt seriously it would make it to the airwaves) and you can bet there would be no award from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Dr. Philip Jenkins, author of  The New Anti-Catholicism:  The Last Acceptable Prejudice, has an interesting explanation of why Anti-Catholicism is acceptable in a video that you can watch here and what he hopes can change this mindset.
