The Pro-Life Community is Calling for Legislature to Protect Women Who Go to Planned Parenthood

Do you remember the name Tonya Reaves?  She was in the news about a week ago.  She wasn't one of the victims of the Colorado shooting or involved in the Chick-fil-A controversy.  She was a 24 year old woman who died at a Planned Parenthood here in Chicago after having an abortion.

That might be shocking all by itself, because we view abortion as a "safe" procedure, but the fact is, the facility is not regulated by the State of Illinois.  The law does not require that Planned Parenthood's clinics be inspected by the Illinois Department of Health.

And there's another snag in the story:  "Planned Parenthood’s Loop Health Center in Chicago, is a facility that, according to its own website, refers all surgical procedures to two other abortion clinics, only offering “medication abortion,” commonly known as the “abortion pill,” at the downtown site."*

Read it again.

They don't do medical procedures.  They're not equipped to do medical procedures.  They are not approved to do medical procedures and they are unlicensed.  Did you know that?  If you were seeking medical assistance, wouldn't you want to know that the facility you were going to was licensed by the state and had regular inspections by the Health Department?

It seems so basic, doesn't it?  Our restaurants undergo inspections by the health department and yet a health facility, trusted by many women is not.

Fortunately, there is outrage over this and the death of Tonya Reaves has stirred the black pro-life community.  Alveda King, Catherine Davis and Pastor Ceasar LeFlore, Midwest Director of Life Education and Resource Network (L.E.A.R.N.) have all voiced their outrage.

Pastor Ceasar LeFlore has written a letter to President of the Senate Senator John J. Cullerton, Speaker of the House Representative Michael J. Madigan and House Republican Leader Representative Tom Cross.  You can read that letter here.

There was a time in this country when abortion was illegal and there were unspeakable things happening at that time to women who sought an abortion.  If the pro-abortion side is so concerned over the health of women, why are they allowing Planned Parenthood to literally operate unlicensed?
