As God once did with Amos, Jesus today removes the Twelve from their worldly occupations and sends them forth two by two. They go poorly, without provisions, in order to proclaim to the world that their only real possession is Jesus Christ - and that he is enough. God chose them in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and without blemish. And we are "destined" to share in that "favor of his will." The genuineness with which the preaching pairs love each other will persuade many to repent and accept the offer of God's cure. Their witness prepares the way of Christ's steps. - Today's Magnificat
I was talking to a woman the other day who was taking a road trip with her family. We were in the grocery store and she was buying food and drinks for the road. They had rented a car and planned their route.
Even when I leave the house to go for my walk, I have my phone, my glasses, my bottle of water and if I walk out the door missing any one of those things, I go back and get them.
Thinking about the Twelve just leaving with nothing, boggles the mind. We live in a world that we constantly "prepare" for, yet we don't think much about the afterlife.
Today's Collect is a reminder of the true path we should be on and a prayer for those who have left that path:
O God, who show the light of your truth to those who go astray, so that they my return to the right pate, give all who for the faith they profess are accounted Christians the grace to reject whatever is contrary to the name of Christ and to strive after all that does it hone. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
