My daughter and I attended the Nationwide Rally for Religious Freedom held at the Federal Plaza (50 W. Adams St.) here in Chicago today. The weather did not deter the 2500 people who showed up nor did the refusal of the Federal Building to turn on the power so the sound system could be turned on! Eventually the Post Office turned the power on so a real system could be implemented instead of a very weak bullhorn. It's all about the power, isn't it?
Speakers included Congressman Dan Lipinski, Congressman Joe Walsh, Relavant Radio's Sheila Liaugminas and Fr. Richard T. Simon. Also present were a Dr. Caruso who is Jewish, two Anglican clergy and a Lutheran minister. One of the Anglican clergy proclaimed, "It must be a real crisis to bring out the Anglicans!" The crowd roared!
There were many other speakers and of course, Eric Scheidler of Stand Up For Religious Freedom.
One of the things that was emphasized by many of the speakers, but in particular, Congressman Joe Walsh, was "Are you willing to go to jail for what you believe in?"
The answer was a resounding, "YES!"
My daughter and I were so moved by the people at that rally and the speakers who spoke so eloquently about religious freedom. It was an experience neither of us will ever forget.
