"Why does this generation seek a sign?" - Jesus (Mark 8:11)
Reading today's Gospel is prophetic considering what's going on today. What will it take for us to stop and take a moment to wake up and realize that Catholics have to stand up for our church?
I read a recent quote from Mike Huckabee, "We are all Catholics now." And Rick Warren stating, "I'm not a Catholic but I stand in 100% solidarity with my brothers & sisters to practice their belief against government pressure.” Other religious groups are realizing that in principle, this could easily happen to them.
Maybe this is the sign. Maybe this is what we need to shake us all up.
Lent is fast approaching. If you know a lot of C.I.N.O.'s (Catholics in name only) encourage them to return to church. Be an example. Your life reflects your faith and church. Pray and fast for them. Pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament that all who are lukewarm about their faith return. Pray for conversions.
And pray for strength in your own faith. My faith is always bolstered when I see and talk with other Catholics who practice their faith with commitment and joy. I know many Catholics who have a lot of struggles, yet they live their faith with strength and dignity and those are the people that I treasure in my life. Surround yourself with faith-filled people.
One of my favorite quotes is from Mother Angelica:
"The world is never going to see the Good News by reading the Good Book. Because they won't read it. They are only going to see it when you live it."
Let us all be the sign.
