Jesus said to the crowds: "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light." - Matthew 11:28-30
And this is from a guy who knew he was going to be nailed to a cross, to suffer and die ... for us.
Recently an acquaintance of mine told me the doctors are running many tests on her because they believe she might have lung cancer. I barely know this woman, but it broke my heart to see the fear and pain in her eyes. I told her I would pray for her, but when she left, I felt I had to offer more.
When I see her again, I will give her my phone number and tell her that if she needs anything to give me a call. I don't know if she has family, if she's married or has any friends, but at least she'll know that someone will be there for her.
Jesus' words in today's Gospel were practically shouting at me. In comparison to cancer, my burdens are very light. Hopefully this woman won't need anything, but if she does, I will try to give her a little rest.
