While Jesus was speaking to the crowds,
his mother and his brothers appeared outside,
wishing to speak with him.
Someone told him, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside,
asking to speak with you.”
But he said in reply to the one who told him,
“Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?”
And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said,
“Here are my mother and my brothers.
For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father
is my brother, and sister, and mother.” Matthew 12:46-50
I'm an only child, but I've been fortunate to have wonderful friends that I consider to be as close to me as siblings.
I take great comfort in Our Blessed Mother. She truly has been my Mother since my conversion.
But having Jesus as a brother?
My daughter always tells me that her brothers have a tendency to act more like parents toward her at times and that's probably because there's a six and seven year age difference between them.
But I supposed that is the whole point. Jesus is acting like the older brother, advising us as to what Our Father truly expects and wants for us.
