Reflecting on Stupidity

"Fame is a vapor, popularity is an accident, riches take wings, those who cheer today may curse tomorrow and only one thing endures - CHARACTER."  - Harry S. Truman

In this rapid world that we live in, where politicians and celebrities become famous in an instant for behaving badly, we have forgotten the meaning of character.  There are many definitions of character, but the one I am talking about here is:  the complex of mental and ethical traits marking and often individualizing a person, group, or nation (Merriam-Webster online dictionary).
What is it about the current trend among politicians to behave like over-sexed teen-aged boys?  Were they always that stupid or over time did they believe their own press releases?  Did that little taste of power go to the smaller of their two heads?

As voters, we need to raise our standards.  Granted, we might not know about character flaws when voting for someone.  Everyone tells us what we want to hear.

When I'm in the voting booth, I always feel I'm casting my ballot for the lesser of two evils.  I have voted locally, only to find out later that the candidate I voted for had a questionable past.  It's frustrating.
So what do we do?  Look for enduring character ... and pray before you cast that vote!  At this point, I think only divine intervention will help us!

  • I think it was the statesman, Konrad Adenauer, who said that God has placed obvious limitation on man's intelligence, but none whatsoever on his stupidity.

  • LOL Thank you!
