Jesus said to his disciples:
"Do not let your hearts be troubled.
You have faith in God; have faith also in me.
In my Father's house there are many dwelling places.
If there were not,
would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?
And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come back again and take you to myself,
so that where I am you also may be.
Where I am going you know the way."
Thomas said to him,
"Master, we do not know where you are going;
how can we know the way?"
Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:1-6
Jesus was a man of His word. The disciples instinctively knew this, but it still confused them.
They always questioned Jesus for an explanation. Sometimes I think Jesus was amused by them and sometimes, because He was human, He was impatient.
I had a friend who used to talk about her "place" in heaven. She would joke about the mansion that Jesus had ready for her. She was a woman who's faith was so big that I thought only a mansion could hold it. I believe Jesus used this language to help us understand what awaited us.
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me," has always been a controversial statement. For me, I didn't now Jesus, but I always sensed there was a God. When I decided to become Catholic, I started to read the Bible and that's where I met Jesus and the disciples.
And then I met His Mother. Our Lady waited patiently for me to come to her. A few months after I converted, I bought a Miraculous Medal at a garage sale for $1. She's been with me ever since because she knew how much I needed her.
O Immaculate Virgin Mary,
Mother of Our Lord Jesus and our Mother,
penetrated with the most lively confidence in your all-powerful and never-failing intercession, manifested so often through the Miraculous Medal,
we your loving and trustful children implore you to obtain for us the graces and favors we ask during this novena,
if they be beneficial to our immortal souls,
and the souls for whom we pray.
(Here form your petition)
You know, O Mary, how often our souls have been the sanctuaries of your Son who hates iniquity.
Obtain for us then a deep hatred of sin and that purity of heart which will attach us to God alone so that our every thought, word and deed may tend to His greater glory.
Obtain for us also a spirit of prayer and self-denial that we may recover by penance what we have lost by sin and at length attain to that blessed abode where you are the Queen of angels and of men.
