Why the racist Straight Outta Compton casting call is a bigger deal than you think

Wanna see some bullshit?

As many of my readers know, in addition to doing music I do a lil acting. Working actors join actors unions (I'm with SAG/AFTRA) to get fair treatment and pay, to make sure things are on point. So I knowwww that SAG/AFTRA is gonna be all over this agency Sande Allesi Casting for the call they released to find female extras for Straight Outta Compton, the NWA movie that Dr. Dre and Ice Cube are backing. The union DOES NOT tolerate fuckery like this.

People sure do hate hearing folks scream racism or discrimination as it relates to the way "minorities" are portrayed in tv and film. This crap right here is proof that not only are antiquated, stereotypical views toward black women being perpetuated by some major agencies in Hollywood, but this behavior is so common that these agency folks ain't even trying to be slick with it. They just put it right out there, hella trill, no shame, like a big "Fuck you" to women as a whole.

Life imitates art. When medium to dark skinned black girls are cast as the poor, outta shape chicks, with NO MENTION of any roles for beautiful dark women in the "hottest of the hot/classy" category, but a SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT for "fine" chicks to be light-skinned, what the hell kinda message do you think they're communicating?

I don't know if the members of NWA or Universal Studios had anything to do with this casting call, because typically, when it comes to finding extras and handling the copious amounts of paperwork, that's what they hire agencies like Sande Allesi Casting to do. For that reason, I can't say that I think people should boycott the movie. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

However, I do encourage ladies of all ethnicities, sizes, and hair types to continue to dress fly as fuck and always put your best presentation forward. And Instagram the hell out of it. Changes are being made to the standards of beauty for women everyday... just ask Tamron Hall, who recently rocked her natural hair for the first time ever on The Today Show. Beauty is diverse, nobody can change that fact. So keep your heads high, my lovelies. One by one we are gonna dismantle the shitty, racist, misogynistic norms and make it so that when Hollywood wants to reflect reality in their movies, then art has no choice but to imitate us.
