Most indie artists would kill to have a write-up about them featured in a popular newspaper. Now, I'm an indie artist who will be having my own writing featured in one. Sweeeeeeeet!
RedEye is a major publication in Chicago that covers pop culture, sports, and anything else current & newsworthy. Since the paper was launched in 2005 by The Chicago Tribune I have loved it, and the few times that I have been mentioned in it were a HUGE deal to me. I mean seriously...I was stoked.
Now, I am a freelance writer for RedEye. My first OFFICIAL article for the paper will be published in the Page 4 column this Friday.
Obviously, it is a great opportunity for a young artist to write for a major publication. I can not properly communicate the way I feel about this with mere words, so please allow this image to express my feelings more accurately.
My regular readers might recall that my article about Rihanna & Chris Brown that got published in RedEye as well as my post that got discussed on The View 2 months ago were actually pieces I wrote for my Becoming Nikki Lynette blog. OF COURSE I will still be doing this blog for ChicagoNow. They let me swear and talk shit :o)
My RedEye articles will be similar to my Becoming Nikki Lynette blog, except there will be fewer naughty words. I will be writing about my experiences as a musician, stuff that pisses me off, and other subjects that I have opinionated & biased thoughts about. It's not the kind of thing where I will have a published article every week (I have no idea how real journalists do that, I don't think I could handle that type of pressure.) I will just have articles published occasionally, when I have time to write a piece that the editor thinks is cool enough for the paper.
So yeah... I write for RedEye now. My fans are gonna be so proud! And if you wanna get the Nikki Lynette experience live, I have a show in Chicago on May 24th at Berlin. More details coming soon. This summer I plan to hit Atlanta, New York, LA, New Orleans, and at least 2 cities in Canada. This whole RedEye thing couldn't have happened at a better time. I'll have PLENTY to write about.
Go Team Bad Ass!
