Seating expansion of Soldier Field?

Soldier Field

Mayor Rahm Emanuel is exploring the idea of expanding Soldier Field's seating capacity by 5,000 seats. It currently holds 61,500 and is the smallest stadium in the NFL despite Chicago being the second largest market in the league.

While this is great news for Bears fans, I’m just wondering where they’ll fit the seats? Above the 400 level on the west side, above the the 300 level in the north and south end zones, maybe above the Cadillac Club?

I’m a fan of the architecture but planning around seating capacity was poor, not to mention the field conditions in the colder months.

Even if they add 5,000 seats, it will still be 1,500 seats short of the 70,000 league minimum to host a Super Bowl and besides, given how brutal our winters can be, why would the NFL want to come to Chicago?

A lot of questions have to be answered before I think this ambition because reality. Stay tuned!
