If the season were to end today, the Bears would be own the fifth seed in the playoffs as a wild card team.
The Bears hold the tie breaker over the Falcons after the season opener beat down at Soldier Field. They also have the tie breaker over the Lions because the Bears have a better record against common opponents.
The Bears would be on the road against the Cowboys while the Falcons would meet the Saints in New Orleans.
If these match ups stick there are a couple scenarios that could play out.
Scenario One -- If the Bears and the Saints win, our team goes to Lambeau to face the hated Packers while the Saints will travel to San Francisco.
Scenario Two -- If the Bears and the Falcons win, our team would go to San Francisco and the Falcons would play in the Frozen Tundra.
I like our chances against the 49ers. There is no chance Alex Smith beats the Bears.
Same goes with the Falcons. There is no chance the they beat the Packers in the middle of January in Green Bay.
If this happens, the Bears would face the Packers in an epic rematch of last season's title game. How awesome would this be? Jay Cutler returns just in time for the Packers game and has his chance at redemption.
What about home field advantage? The only way the Bears get home field advantage is if both the Falcons win out in which they would play on the lakefront.
BTW -- playoff invoices were sent to Bears Season Ticket Holders this week. Payment is due by December 12.
