This was a must win game for the Bears. Tonight's loss sends the Bears to 2-3 and three games back from the undefeated Lions and the Packers. Coming into this week, the Lions rushing attack was 31st overall. Against the Bears, the Lions rushed for 188 yards. This loss makes every game, must win games as the Bears will have to right the ship immediately to make a playoff run.
The offensive line committed nine false start penalties and couldn't keep the Lions' defensive line off of Jay Cutler, as he was running for his life for most of the night. Cutler finished the game 28-38 for 249 yards and 1 touchdown, his best game of the season despite the pressure and the punishment he took. Matt Forte was his stellar self with 116 on the ground and 35 yards receiving.
The defense was gashed (again) for 395 yards. There was also no pass rush to make Matthew Stafford nervous. Stafford was only sacked once and hit three times. This defense has a bend-don't-break philosophy that limits the big plays and the unit allowed two big plays that sealed a Lions' victory. Jahvid Best scored a back breaking 88 yard run and Calvin Johnson caught a 73 yard bomb. Best finished with 163 rushing yards, a 13.6 per rush average. Johnson finished with 130 yards receiving with a 73 yard bomb.
Devin Hester didn't have his chance as they kicked away from him and deep in Lions' territory. In the first half, instead of giving Robbie Gould a chance to get on the scoreboard, the offense stayed on the field and couldn't convert on 4th down. In hindsight, if the Bears went for the field goal, it could have changed the complexion of the game as the Bears were down by two possessions late in the 4th quarter.
@BKingIII I hope the fact that the #Bears were exposed under the big lights on MNF will lead to big changes in management #4thPhase
@sobeditor Uhm, when do we start to #OccupyHalasHall? #bears #beardown #4thphase #firelovie #firetice #fireangelo
@KP_fromthe_OP Helmet? Shoulder? Apparently synonymous? #syke #bears #4thphase
@Cueil Cutler was on his game tonight... not enough time... disgusting O-Line and Defensive play
As bad as it might seem, the Bears still have 11 games left in the season. Keep the faith.
