With a dominant performance against the Jets and their 5th ranked rushing defense (4th overall), Matt Forte has been nominated for FedEx's Ground Player of the Week. Make sure you vote before Friday, 12pm EST so that he gets the award. Go to NFL.com/FedEx to vote.
Forte has been key piece to the Bears' turnaround since the bye as the
offense has been able to be keep defenses off-balanced by committing to
run. Against the Jets, Forte rushed for 113 yards on 19 carries with a touchdown and caught
4 passes for 56 yards and another touchdown. He is 22 yards away from a
1,000 yard season, his second in his three year career.
Running backs thrive in Mike Martz's offensive scheme because he
requires them to have wide receiver pass catching skills as Forte has.
Forte has 43 receptions on 487 yards for an 11.3 yards per reception
average, tops in the league for a running back.
Forte is coming off, what many think was a down year, due to a nagging
hamstring injury. Despite being injured, he never made any excuses and
still racked up 1400 yards from scrimmage.
