Everyone deserves a second chance and Michael Vick has made the most of his second chance, so far. Let's give him his due respect because he served his time and quite honestly is having one heck of a year.
Since spending time in the slammer and getting reacquainted to life in the NFL, Vick is on fire. Everyone is putting him in elite-level status, mentioning him in the same sentence as Tom Brady and Peyton Manning but adding spectacular or amazing to that sentence.
I'm not going to put him the same class Brady or
Manning but he does add an element that no quarterback in the NFL has, an
automatic turbo button.
As Vick is known for his spectacular runs, he's also developing a
reputation as a passer that makes smart decisions.
In 7 games this season, he's completed 62.8% of his passes, has 11
touchdown passes and a 108.7 QB rating with no interceptions and 1 fumble.
As far as his ability to make plays with his feet, he's rushed for 375
yards with 5 rushing touchdowns.
What makes Vick even more dangerous than the last time the Bears faced
him at Soldier Field on a Sunday night in below zero degree
temperatures, is that this time around he has weapons. Back in Atlanta,
Vick was pretty much a one man show. With the Eagles he has DeSean
Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy.
He's a different player and on a more talented team but that doesn't
mean he can't get confused under pressure.
For one, Vick has been sacked 18 times. The Bears have the Rush Men that
can hunt him down. In 4 games against Vick when he was with the
Falcons, as a Panther, Julius Peppers has sacked Vick 5 times.
Two, if Vick manages to escape the pocket, the Bears have the fastest
group of linebackers in the NFL that can run with him. As athletic as
Vick is as a quarterback, Brian Urlacher is his equal as a linebacker.
Finally, the Bears defense is ranked 4th in the league and 2nd overall
against the rush. The Eagles will be one dimensional against the Bears.
The Bears have always matched up well against the Eagles with Donovan
McNabb and when Vick was with the Falcons. The Eagles weapons with speed on offense and the Bears have the defensive scheme and speed to match. This game already looks worthy of NFL Replay.
For the record, the old Vick (01-05) is 0-3 against the Bears.
