I told you that I was making the Bears Kool Aid in the offseason. I started serving the Kool Aid after the Bears win against the Packers. Despite losses against sub-par opponents (Seahawks and Redskins), I was still giving you cups. After a convincing win against the Eagles, the hottest team in the NFL, I'm serving up tall glasses of Bears Kool Aid.
All the talk around the Bears-Eagles game was centered on how Mike Vick was having a great year and how the Bears defense will be in a world of trouble, this coming from both national and local media.
Not surprisingly, not much attention was paid to the Bears defense that ranked 3rd in yards given up, 1st in points allowed, 2nd in rushing yards and 2nd in turnovers.
All this is about to change, I think... Despite the win, I can still hear the skeptics say, "well the Soldier Field turf played a difference" or "Asanti Samuels would've been the difference".
The Bears outplayed and outcoached the Eagles in all 3 phases.
1st Phase - Jay Cutler finished with 247 passing yards, 4 TDs and a 146.2 rating. Matt Forte broke the 100-yard mark for the first time this season. The offense had 4 plays of over 30 yards.
2nd Phase - Chris Harris had an INT in the endzone and returned is for 39 yards. The Rush Men sacked Vick 4 times and hit him 7 times. The defense held the Eagles running game to their lowest output of the season 105 yards.
3rd Phase - Danieal Manning returned a kick for 44 yards while Devin Hester returned a kick 44 yards. This dynamic duo makes the Bears special teams unit the best in the NFL, bar none.
4th Phase is pumped.
