Brian Urlacher and Brett Favre have met each other 15 times in their careers, the most times for both players. Favre stepped into Soldier Field for the very last time and the Bears sent him home with a loss. Coming into the game, Brian Urlacher had a 7-8 all-time record against Favre and the Bears win today sets up a tie-breaking game between the two rivals at Minnesota next month.
The Bears won in convincing fashion against the Vikings because all 4 phases came out to play.
The Bears offense compiled 130 yards on the ground, 230 yards through the air, 18 first downs, 11-19 on third down conversions and held the ball for 34:39. Mike Martz orchestrated another week of a balanced attack by calling for 40 passing plays and 34 running plays.
The defense didn't sack Favre forced him to fumble and picked him off 3 times, allowed only 240 yards of total offense and held Adrian Peterson to only 51 rushing yards. The vikings were also 1-11 on third down conversions.
Robbie Gould missed a field goal but in the end it didn't matter. Devin Hester had 100 kickoff return yards and 47 punt return yards. He set the Bears offense with excellent field position for the entire game.
And of course the 4th Phase came out to play. This was definitely a confidence boosting win and the Bears will continue to need the all 4 phases to run on all cylinders as the Bears continue their playoff push.
Here's what the some of the 4th Phase said after the game on Twitter:
@sobeditor It's fair to say, no matter what you think of the #Bears coaching staff, that adjustments WERE made during the bye week #beardown #4thphase
@JohnnyKast312 Today was not luck, it was all skill and #Vikings garbage game play @GIZMONATION #Chicago #Bears #BearDown #4thPhase #DaBears
Some of the Bears players acknowledged the 4th Phase:
Major Wright - @LilMade21 Thanks to all the bears fans we do it for yall
@DJMoore30 Thanks tons happy to make all bear fans happy. We won an I do mean we. Thanks to all bear fans.
@ChrisHarrisNFL How sweet it is! Great game today. All 3 phases put in work. Gave up a TD but got sweet redemption with the game sealing pick #BearDown
But then corrected himself by tweeting:
@ChrisHarrisNFL Correction all 4 Phases RT @chisox4lfe: @ChrisHarrisNFL all three phases?? how bout the 4th phase n the cold ass stands!!
It's funny how all the pessimism stops when the Bears win. I'm surprised there weren't tweets about Jay Cutler's 2 interceptions, the 11 penalties and Gould's missed kick.
Bear Down 4th Phase! The Bears have short week because they travel to Miami for a Thursday night game against the Dolphins. Celebrate this now and let's get back to work.
