Martz-Cutler marriage is working

Offensively, the Bears are eleventh overall and fifth in passing yards. Jay Cutler has a 109.7 QB rating, third in the NFL. Those who thought the Mike Martz-Jay Cutler "marriage" wasn't going to work were wrong.

On the strength of Mr. Cutler's skills, the results thus far in Chicago have been more than twice as strong--the Bears' 9.1 YPA is about 2.5 yards better than league average. The lack of a running game (28th in yards per rush) doesn't seem to matter, and neither does the absence of an established wide receiver. Mr. Martz's system emphasizes speed, and there's no faster pair of wideouts in the league than Johnny Knox and Devin Hester.
