Three role players that will be important to the defense's success

There's no secret on who the Bears need to step up on
defense to restore the respect they once had and to make to serious run at
Super Bowl XLV. Julius Peppers needs have double digit sack numbers, Brian
Urlacher needs to stay healthy, and the secondary needs to make plays.
These "needs" are all given. It's the role players that need to emerge as key
contributors to the Bears success.

Israel Idonije - The Bears released fan favorite Alex Brown and unceremoniously booted him from a Halas Hall visit. Idonije will most likely fill in Brown's role on the defense and will have to prove that he belongs. He's performed well everywhere the Bears have asked him to play -- on special teams and on the defensive line. Last season in a backup role, Idonije was the Bears most product lineman.

Marcus Harrison - Harrison has all the physical tools to become a dominant nose tackle. In his third year, he hasn't lived up to expectations. This season could be a make or break season for him with the Bears. He lost his starters job to Anthony Adams and needs to find himself in the rotation.

Danieal Manning - Like Harrison, the Bears have high expectations for Manning. As a kick returner, he has been one of the most electrifying in the league. As a defensive back, his inconsistency has often left him out of position. To his credit the Bears have played Manning at three different secondary positions and believe in his athleticism.
