Welcome to the Chicago Bears Major Wright

Vanderbilt v Florida
Maybe Jerry Angelo and company read my last post about drafting Major Wright!!! Maybe I should wish for a Bears Super Bowl on the 25th Anniversary of the '85 Bears.
The big reason why I wanted Major Wright is because he is a big game player that has played against elite level speed and talent. The knock on him is his coverage skills, isn't athletic enough and has difficulty shedding blockers. Coverage skills and shedding blockers are coachable. I don't understand the criticism of him not being athletic enough - was this based on the combine? We all know the combine can help a prospect but to be labeled as not athletic enough? This label doesn't make sense. What stands out to me is his toughness and instinct.
Since Mike Brown left, there has been a lack of identity in the Bears secondary. Opposing wide receivers, tight ends and running backs weren't intimidated. I think Wright will bring that identity back. He can deliver the big hit and is solid against the run.
At Florida, he played center field most of the time in the Cover 1. Obviously he didn't have to cover in this system. His job was to be a ball hawk. Last season, interceptions from the safeties were hard to come by. Wright's strengths are in zone coverage. I think he's the perfect fit for Lovie's Cover 2.

I know Bears fans will miss Alex Brown and his Gator chomp but now we have Major Wright. Maybe after an interception, touchdown or a big hit he'll give us his version.

The Chicago Bears need all four phases (offense, defense, special teams and the fans) of the game to work together to pave the way to victory. This is the unofficial 4th Phase blog. You can follow the blog on Twitter, @4thPhase or #4thPhase.
