After the Super Bowl year, the Bears decided to trade Chris Harris. Jerry Angelo, Lovie Smith and company decided that Danieal Manning could fill in Harris' shoes. To Manning's credit, he also had to fill in for about twenty other positions for the team and it really hasn't worked out so well. The Bears wound up playing musical chairs with the safety position by shuffling Manning, Adam Archuleta (good riddance), Craig Steltz, Kevin Payne, Josh Bullocks and Al Afalava. Now Manning might be the odd man out.
From Harris' Twitter account (which was later deleted):
"I will be traded to Chicago Bears. Carolina u have been great and deeply missed. I have a special place in my heart for u"
Minutes later, unconfirmed reports surfaced that Jamar Williams was being traded for Harris. Contracts had to be reworked to make the trade official. This is probably why Harris later deleted his tweet.
Harris has flourished as a Carolina Panther. In 2007, he recorded 107
tackles and led the NFL with 8 forced fumbles. Harris can play both
safety positions but will probably be inserted as a strong safety with
the Bears drafting Major Wright as a free safety. With the addition of Harris, the Bears
solidify their defense and fill one of their biggest needs.
