I found it very hard to believe that the vote went in the direction for those teams that just "can't" get-it-together on Special Teams. The other other thing that I found surprising is how the "owners" made the proposal for "safety" reasons. PLEASE, GET-OFF MY FOOT!!!!
Josh Cribbs was a guest on ESPN's "Mike & Mike" Show Tuesday morning, and he made some very "strong" points. The one point that stuck with me (from Cribbs), was the fact that return men are at an even greater risk in the event that a kicker may get more than enough "hang-time" to allow the coverage to "close-in" on the returner. In that case, the returner could stand to get his bell-rung when he catches the ball (you can't "fair-catch" a kick-off like a punt).
Plus, back in 1993 when the rules were changed, the leagues main "motivation was to add more "excitement" to the game with more kick-off returns. Now 18 years later, they remove any possibility of the kick-off being anywhere near exciting. The most shocking thing of all was discovering that there were conversations about "eliminating" the kick-off all together.
I'm sorry folks, but I've come to the conclusion that Roger Goddell is taking this league in the "wrong-direction". Yeah he's made his (self-righteous) point about discipline and raining in "head-hunters", but he has not endeared himself to the players or the fans. When the NFLPA calls the commish an "outright" liar this early in his reign as the "head-dude", you can rest assured that the rest of the road will be filled with "turmoil". The players will never trust Goddell just like they distrust "The Slave-Masters" known as the owners.....
WILL WE EVER GET ANOTHER GREAT LEADER LIKE PETE ROZELLE???
