Remembering: Dave Duerson

The football world was shocked with the tragic news of the death of one it's greatest players and positive role models, Mr. Dave Duerson (see article).

I vividly remember when the Bears drafted Duerson in the 3rd round of the 1983 draft (64th overall).  Thereafter, Duerson and Bears Strong Safety Gary Fencik became very close friends.  In fact, Fencik highly sponsored Duerson as his successor at the SS postion in 1985.  The rest was history.
Duerson was known for his fierce tackling, and nose for the ball.  Duerson posted 5 pics in 85, and followed up with 6 INTs in season 86.  He was a tremendous leader and positive influence in the locker room as well.  When I think Dave Duerson, not only do I remember his "solid" play at the Safety position, but "always" remember his million dollar smile.
Duerson finished his career with 20 interceptions (18 with the Bears), 16 QB Sack (7 in 1986), and was selected to the Pro-Bowl 4 times during His ten years in the NFL (all 4 selections when he played with the Bears).  After football, Duerson remained active as a successful business man.  In 2007 Duerson appeared before congress to testify regarding the NFL Players Retirement Plan.  He was a "true" ambassador and lover of the game.
We "love" you Dave, and will certainly miss you.   May we "all" extend our prayers and well wishes to Dave's family during untimely period of mourning.
