A cop, a realtor, and a deaf girl get into a boat...
Sounds like the start of a bad joke, doesn't it?
It sounded like a nightmare to my husband when I first told him I was going barefoot water skiing last September with two guys I had never met. The cop had reached out to me on Facebook and invited me to join them in the boat. The hubby wasn't too happy. After all, I was getting in a boat with strangers and hey, one of them knew how to fire weapons pretty well.
A friend of mine happened to know and work with the cop and he gave me the green light to go ahead. I met the cop and the realtor on the shore of the Fox river and barefoot water skied all morning. The hubby breathed a sigh of relief when I came home.
As it turned out, I met two really cool guys. Kevin O'Connell is a police officer with the city of Naperville. For many years, he worked in the Naperville schools as a DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) officer and once a year, he tags along with high school students while biking the boulevards of Chicago. Tom Hart is 60 years old and he can tear up the water like a teen in this extreme sport. Years ago, his wife, Janice, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and Tom is dedicated to raising funds each year to fight MS.
