If you've ever wanted to learn how to water ski on your bare feet, this is the summer to do it!Two-time World Barefoot Champion, Keith St. Onge is doing a "Barefooting Across America" tour with clinics in many cities. Keith and his fiance, Lauren Lindeman, have been on the road since May. They are sharing stories of the barefooters they've met along the way: Barefooting Stories on the Road.
From the very first time that 10-year-old Keith kicked off a ski and put his feet in the water, he was hooked on barefoot water skiing. He began to ski competitively and the time he was thirteen, he knew he wanted to make a career of the sport. He won the Barefoot Nationals at the age of eighteen, breaking a winning streak that was held by Waterski Hall of Fame legend, Ron Scarpa. Keith went on to set World Records in tricks, jumping and slalom. He currently holds the record for slalom and a pending record for tricks. Keith (two-time World Champion) and David Small (three-time World Champion) own the World Barefoot Center in Winter Haven, Florida.
"We teach people of all ages and ability levels, from the beginner who has never set foot on the water, to professionals who compete," said Keith. "We use a proven system of instruction-- and we often say 'the proof is in the footin'-- some of our skiers are out there setting new records."
The Barefooting Across America Tour is sponsored in part by Anytime Fitness owners, Mike and Natalie Betts. The tour continues until September, covering 15,000 miles and 30 cities. There are some spots open in some clinics-- for more information, contact Lauren Lindeman at 708-668-2961. You can follow Keith's tour on his blog: World Barefoot Center, Barefoot Blog.
