C is for cookie

I beginning to love my diabetic life, it is true.  What once seemed like a rough life is now manageable.  I am not saying I feel this way every day but recently I have been experimenting and getting out of my comfort zone by eating something that most people take for granted, cookies.

I know you are thinking what the big deal is, every one eats cookies.  Well in the months that I have been a better diabetic I avoided any sweets in fear that I would fall back into old habits.  I wanted to get used to eating a third of the food I used to eat before I took chances.  I have finally gotten to a place where I am comfortable getting out of the comfort zone.

There are a lot of diabetic friendly sweets out there.  Anything Snackwell and sugar free Oreos are my snacks of choice.  I can have 2 or 3 at a time, this is average serving size, and they account for less than 20 grams of carbohydrates.  So I can have them with meals and not have to sacrifice much.

I completely admit that being excited to eat cookies is a bit unusual but for me it marks a milestone, it proves to me that I am fighting this disease tooth and nail and refuse to give up.  This is just another step in the right direction.  Now I just need to find a suitable diabetic friendly version of red velvet cake.  Oh sorry, I just drooled on my keyboard.
