Ancient poop may be a link...

Thanks to fellow blogger Joe Grace for the head’s up on this article.  My posts this week have been kind of heavy so I figured why not post about poop to add some levity.   Poop is funny but scientists have been examining ancient poop for evidence of diets in Native Americans and its correlation to the high rate of type 2 diabetes in Native Americans today.

It appears that ancient Native Americans ate a diet with high in fiber foods which may have caused them to be more susceptible to disease and may have exposed them to these risks even more when Caucasians made their way here.

Okay so truth be told the juvenile in me is always happy to try and make poop a legitimate source of conversation, but I sort of wish this effort was more focused on finding a cure.  I suppose finding a link is important to that cause but is it?

I found this article to be pretty interesting.   I will be honest I did not know how prevalent diabetes was amongst Native Americans.  I never thought to look it up before.  I also do not envy the intern whose job it was to cultivate the samples.  Even if it is in the name of science.
