Make me laugh, diabetic kid!

As a comedian, people react more to truth in comedy more than anything.  So I add a lot of personal things to my act.  I talk about cancer, relationships and just recently I added jokes about diabetes.

Honestly, I am not saying diabetes is not funny, because it kind of is.  It had more to do with the fact that I could not think of jokes regarding diabetes.  Now I have some pretty good ones.  You will have to see me live to hear them though, I have strict “no telling jokes unless I am on stage policy” Seriously it is about 5 pages long with one sentence then a bunch of blank pages.

Anyway, I use jokes about my diseases as a way to cope and a way to help others cope.  It is not easy making cancer funny but somehow I did it.  I can do the same with diabetes.  The lifestyle itself is pretty funny, it is definitely different.  I think I could prey on people’s ignorance of the disease as well.

I have used entertainment as a way to make things seem less serious or sometimes even unreal.  It is just another way of showing this disease who is boss.  That I respect its place in my life but I will not let it rule my life.  I am a big believer in mind over matter.  I laugh at you, diabetes, now go to a corner and cry.
