Fishing is good in the Northwoods

I had the opportunity to spend over a week fishing in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Joining me were my daughter Lisa and her boyfriend, Roger Wright. Despite the fact that we had a couple days in the 90 degree temperature zone, and a couple days of rain, the fishing was good in the Northwoods.

I have a cabin on three lake chain, Big Kitten, Little Kitten and Wildcat Lake. These lakes are known for being good muskie lakes. They're classified by the Wisconsin DNR as Class A muskie lakes meaning the muskie population is great and/or the size of these monster fish is phenomenal.

We weren't muskie hunting but while fishing for bass, we did have a few muskies follow our baits with no takers.

Traditionally when I go to the cabin I'll want to try different lakes. There in Vilas County, we have 194 lakes all within 10 miles of the town closest to the cabin, Boulder Junction.

We covered a lot of water and caught a lot of bass. Mostly they were smallmouth bass yet the largemouth bass came in good numbers too.

Almost all of our fish came on a wacky worm attached to a 16th ounce wacky worm jig. I prefer the unpainted jigs but if I had to pic a color, it would be black.

All of our fish were released. I'd like to share some photos of our catch. This wasn't all of them, as we really wanted to spend more time catching fish than taking photos.

There's nothing better than a good day on the water. Well, there is actually; several good days on the water. We enjoyed our time up north and getting back in the outdoors.
