OK parents of school aged kids, how do you feel about these last days of summer vacation?
Are you counting down the minutes until you can be free of the whining, the boredom, and the demands for food to be prepared constantly (it's not just my house, I know).
Or are you dreading every passing minute until the kids leave you for yet another school year? Growing another year older until the next summer vacation starts? Maybe just dreading the homework, the hectic schedule and the insanity that is another school year?
I land somewhere in the middle. I am always amazed at just how much the kids grow and change from the first day of school until the last. But I am usually SO ready for them to go back to a routine in a social and learning atmosphere too. Besides, I am at my wits end of what to do with them anymore this summer. We've done almost everything we set out to do, and boredom is setting in now that it's not warm enough to swim.
We have one school out here that has already dealt with this issue. They follow the year-round schedule and returned to school at the end of July. By the time my kids start, they've had almost a month back in the classroom. It did help me not be as mad at the stores for having their Back-To-School items out right after the 4th of July... barely.
A few years back I was invited to a Yahoo/Boo Hoo party. I had never heard of this before, but what an idea. No matter how you were reacting to the school year beginning, it was nice to be with several other moms going through a similar experience of the Back to School fugue.
Wishing you all a happy school year, wether you are dying for it to start or dreading your kids leaving. I can't bring up how it must feel for the parents sending their kid(s) off to college as you have a whole other set of issues that I cannot even imagine dealing with yet. Hats off to you!
