They said there'd be no math...

Within 18 hours, Joe and I will have been married for 15 years - We met as undergrads and doing the quick math, we've known each other for...lemme see... carry the 1... hold on, that should be carry the 2 (boys) wait, no, divide by 2 (boys)... times (that's none of your business)...

Shoot! I can't do this in my head - because it didn't start there. And I won't say it started in my heart. OK, maybe it started because we were horny college students but, clearly, there was more to it than how we knew each other, biblically speaking.

I guess to understand how our relationship started I would first have to understand where friendships begin. To my experience there's no mental, emotional, or physical start line to signal that the "we're cool bond" begins... wait for it... wait for it... NOW. You just look up and realize the person you want to be around is the person who wants to be around you and is, positively, with you.

I mean, should I attempt to count the time Joe and I have been together and I find a ledger that lists our shared smiles, frustrations, dances, debt, arguments, etc. it still won't amount to anything that can be calculated. Of course it won't.

So, what's the take away? Arithmetic isn't really my strong suit (so I always try to keep it simple), but so far, my answer is: There is no formula to tabulate what it takes for 2 to become 1. You just figure it out as you go...
