I’m a woman whose heart beats strong with love and excitement. I’m a mom whose heart breaks every time something dreadful happens to my kids. I’m a wife whose heart swells with pride as I witness my husband’s gentle touch with our kids. I’m a daughter whose heart is forever bound to my parents from whom I was conceived.
My heart has been walked on, pushed aside, chased after, and treasured. Most days, it beats without notice, but some days it beats with power, pounding away while in the midst of a workout routine.
My heart takes many forms. It is critical to my daily life. It enables me to keep going, to keep giving, to keep doing. But how much time and attention do I actually give to caring for my heart? That’s the ultimate question we should all be asking ourselves, especially if we’re women…
Did you know that heart disease is the #1 cause of death for American women? According to the American Heart Association, in 2010 more than 200,000 women died from heart attacks. That’s five times more than from breast cancer.
I had no idea, and that’s why I’m proud to support the efforts of the “Go Red for Women” campaign whose mission is to raise awareness of women and heart disease.
On Wednesday, February 29, 2012 from 7-10pm at Alhambra Palace (1240 W. Randolph Street), Sassy Moms in the City along with WBBM Newsradio, K-HITS and B96 present the “Girls Night Out Benefiting Go Red for Women” fundraising event.
Guests will be treated to a red carpet affair complete with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, swag bag filled with goodies, mini spa services, fashion show and more! Tickets are available online for $30 at: http://beboldgored2012.eventbrite.com/
All ticket sale proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association's "Go Red for Women" campaign. Guests are encouraged to bring gently used handbags and professional shoes to help support Dress for Success.
To learn more about this event, you can also go to the Facebook page of the Girls Night Out Benefiting Go Red for Women.
Knowing that heart disease can affect women of any age, it’s important for all of us to start heart-healthy habits and support the good work of events like this. Hope to see you there!
