I love Thanksgiving. It is probably my favorite
I love it because it is all about food, and I love to eat. But for me, Thanksgiving is also about family. It's about getting together and just hanging out. It is not about gifts or costumes or shopping...it's just about being together.
I have great memories of Thanksgiving dinners as a kid. Mounds of turkey, mashed potatoes, lasagna (I'm Italian, it's what we do), apple pie and my favorite...egg nog.
However, the one thing I remember vividly from every Thanksgiving was watching the Macy's Parade with my mom. She would get so excited about all of the balloons, the bands, and when Santa Claus would appear on the screen, she would go crazy saying, "Santa's coming...look it's Santa."
Now as a mom, I watch the Macy's Parade with Cooper and Cole every year. And, I am the one pointing out the huge balloons, clapping with every band, and jumping up and down excitedly, saying, "Look...it's Santa." And even though I am a grown woman with kids of my own, this particular tradition still takes me back to being a kid watching the parade. And I will admit, I do get a bit misty-eyed when I see Santa. I am not sure why. Maybe I miss the innocence of getting excited for Santa. Maybe I miss being with my mom and watching how excited she got for us. Who knows. I am not going to over-think it. It is a really nice memory for me and makes me happy.
So I will try to carry out this tradition for Cooper and Cole and hope it sticks.
