Continued from last week's Moving...with Kids!
After a long day of packing and unpacking it was now time to relax and slow down. This was going to be a great night! New house, new rooms, the kids were finally asleep; finally some downtime. We were completely exhausted from our busy first day at the new home, so after half a glass of red wine both Enrico and I were more than ready to hit the sack.
After taking a quick shower I drifted into dreamland in minutes. I had no idea what time it was when all of a sudden we hear a loud BAM! against the floor followed by fast footsteps. Enrico jumped off the bed to check on the kids and found Joaquin roaming around the house half asleep saying Where's my Buzz? I want my Buzz! (from Toy Story) My husband put him back on his crib and he immediately fell asleep. Joaquin jumped off his crib! Joaquin jumped off his crib! was the only thought I had in my head the entire night. The idea of my two year old roaming around the house at 2:00 am was quite disturbing. Of course, the good night sleep wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be.
The next day, the kids woke up at their usual time and we put our decoration skills to good use. A two story home with a family room, huge kitchen, formal dining and living room, backyard, three bedrooms, loft, two car garage and two and a half bathrooms. So much space, so little furniture! I was so ready to start looking for new rugs, informal dining table, patio furniture, indoor plants...Nina, this place looks great. I can't believe we had so much furniture in our Chicago condo! So much furniture? Couldn't he see ALL the empty spaces? We still needed so much stuff around the house. So I took a deep breath and thought to myself One step at a time, these are rough times and we have to go slow, and I just smiled at my wonderful husband and said Yes, dear. We definitely had our place in Chicago overcrowded with furniture. We just need a couple of things here and there; but everything can wait. Right.
We had so much done the second day that in the blink of an eye it was 11:30 pm. Time to go to sleep. This time, Lucia was the one who woke up. In our house we have a bedtime rule No sleeping in Mami and Papi's bed. If the kids get scared, they can sleep on our bedroom floor, but not in our bed. Period. Of course, that day the rule did not apply. New house + new room + new big girl bed = A good excuse to crawl to Mami's room. Ever since that day, Lucia has been sneaking out to our room at night. I guess that with the new house a lot of other new changes came along!
For today's recipe a wonderful key lime pie to enjoy the end of the Summer and start welcoming the new Season. And in my house, Fall appears to be a season of change. Ay Mama!
