Eyes to the Skies

As you know from last week's post, our family had been excitedly looking forward to indulging Dylan's obsession with balloons by taking him to the Lisle Eyes to the Skies festival this weekend.

Well, Friday was the big day, and we had a blast! Bill, Dylan, my sister-in-law Kathi and I arrived early and walked around the festival for a bit before it got really crowded. Dylan got to go on the bounce houses and to enjoy a huge funnel cake before we met up with the same friends who came to the festival with us last year and headed towards the balloon launch area.

Unfortunately, just like last year, it was a little too windy for the balloons to launch, but luckily the wind died down enough for the balloons to be inflated and lit up. We had a wonderful time walking around them and seeing Dylan's enthralled face. He was so excited I don't think he even noticed the balloons didn't take flight, and of course the first thing he said Saturday morning when he woke up was "Go see balloons!"

Here are a few pictures of the festival. Going to Eyes to the Skies has definitely become a family tradition, and we are already looking forward to next year's visit. Happy Fourth of July, everyone!

  • Sounds like fun, Khadine! Last year we went to the Art & Balloon festival in Lincoln, IL. It was amazing and the kids LOVED the air balloons. Maybe you should make a quick overnight trip down HWY 55 to Lincoln in August? http://lincolnillinois.com/ABF.aspx

Thanks for letting me know about that, Laura! We'll definitely have to check it out. Dylan hasn't had his fill of balloons yet. Just a little while ago he was saying "I want to ride balloon!"

What a fun afternoon it was....I'm real glad I went with you 3...hot-air balloons really are neat to see....so big, cool colors, etc.

Last night- on our walk around Green Trails- Dylan stopped & stared up at the huge Lisle water tower ("big balloon") for a few minutes. Really cute....& quite impressive to look up at, from the bottom of it....made us all feel very small. :)

Nos hubiese gustado estar ahi para ver la cara de Dylan cuando empezaron a inflarse los balones. Por las fotos se nota lo embellezado que estaba.
