I Admit It...I Like My Kids' TV Show

I know, I know.  I am a forty-something adult, but I like watching the Imagination Movers with my children.  I like the guys on show and I like their music.  I must say that when my kids aren't home I DO NOT tune in myself, but when Cooper and Cole want to watch it, I will stop and watch with them.

The TV show Imagination Movers airs on the Disney Channel and is about four guys who solve "idea emergencies" through imagination and song.  The four men who started this show also have a very interesting back story.

They were a close-knit group of friends, living blocks from each other in New Orleans who were all affected by Hurricane Katrina.  Three out of the four of them lost their homes and one of them was a firefighter who went missing during a rescue mission.  Once they all returned home to New Orleans, these four men decided to follow through on an idea they had been kicking around for years.

So in 2003, they started getting together after their kids' bedtime to write songs and develop an idea for a television series.  They eventually were signed by Disney and began production on a television series in their home town of New Orleans, a requirement of the Imagination Movers so that they could create local jobs to help rebuild the city.

The Imagination Movers say their primary focus is the music and it was their goal to create rock music that both parents and children could enjoy together.  It has worked for Cooper, Cole and me.

We almost never miss a show and we went to their concert last year when they came to Waukegan.  All of their CDs are on our iPod and we have a "jam session" to their music at least once a week.

So yes, I can admit that I like the Imagination Movers.  Heck, they won a Daytime Emmy so it could be worse right?

  • I had never even heard of them! They seem much hip than The Wiggles. We will have to give these guys a listen!

Anita - They are fun.. much cooler than The Wiggles...just my opinion.

Lisa, I don't openly admit it, but I also watch certain shows with my daughters. My favorite is Sesame Street. My eldest daughter got into Sesame Street because of me and I think I like it more than she does. I wasn't as lucky with the 2 younger ones but Sesame Street is ever present at our home, especially Elmo.

Veronica - Thanks! I know I am not alone in this.

I had NO idea their back story, makes me like them more. All I can say, thank God for 'Phineas and Ferb'! I laugh out loud several times each show.

I think that's great. These guys weren't around when my kids were little, but I'm sure I'd have watched them, too. I sat (or stood and folded laundry) with my kids during Arthur, Teletubbies, Barney, and Dora the Explorer. I think Arthur and Dora were my faves. My youngest daughter still loves tape to this day and she's 11. :) You have a great bonding experience going on!!!

Jackie - You are right...that is a huge bonus! I do get snuggle time with my active boys. It's one of the few times they slow down. Thank you for the comment!
