Exclusive Premier Event: The Rally for Kids with Cancer Scavenger Cup

Last Week's Blog > "A Lesson Learned From My Father: The Three Cs"

Two months ago, I was contacted by Comer Children's Hospital at The University of Chicago (U of C) asking if Atia could attend an upcoming hospital benefit.

The goal: To raise money for pediatric cancer care and research.

Atia's presence would place an awfully cute face with the cause. Who could say no to such an adorable little girl? Who wouldn't want to help and make a donation?

U of C has done so much for our family; we happily attended the event. It was the launch party for The Rally for Kids with Cancer Scavenger Cup, designed to recruit participants.

The Rally for Kids with Cancer Scavenger Cup pairs drivers of exotic/luxury cars with celebrity navigators, forming teams that will compete in an Amazing Race-type scavenger hunt around Chicago. Teams will be given a clue and upon reaching the "pit stop" (various Chicago landmarks) they will be asked to complete a task to earn the next clue.

The Rally for Kids with Cancer Scavenger Cup, with Eva Longoria as the spokesperson, has been successful in Los Angeles and Toronto, and is being premiered in Chicago this weekend, June 25th and 26th.

During the launch party, Lori Ovitz, author of Facing the Mirror with Cancer and a U of C board member, invited me to ride in her car representing myself and Atia, since she's too young to ride along. Lori was touched by our survivorship stories and was taken by Atia's sweet demeanor. Her offer was an unbelievable surprise. We had gone to the launch party with the simple intention of helping U of C and now there we were getting to actually participate in the event.

So, this Saturday I will be riding in Lori's car with a celebrity and a few other cancer survivors. Atia, Steve, Asher and my mom will be volunteering at one of the "pit stops."

There are only three days left to make donations!

If you too have been touched by Atia's story and would like to make a difference, please donate to Lori's fundraising team, Facing the Mirror for Comer Kids. Your contributions will help fund pediatric cancer research, with the hope of one day celebrating the end of childhood cancer.

Every dollar counts and your support is greatly appreciated. Donations can be made through Thursday, June 24th 5:00PM CST. Click HERE to donate.

Help our team move up in the standings - we're currently in 5th place - this is a competition after all!

I vow to take TONS of pictures and write a follow-up blog detailing all of it. You may even see some event coverage onE! News Weekend, since Giuliana Rancic and Jason Kennedy will be there.

I'm over-the-moon excited to meet Scottie Pippen (an honorary co-chair of the event); as a HUGE Chicago Bulls fan back in the Jordan-Pippen-Rodman days, my goal is to get a picture with him for sure! Wish me luck!
