Moving woes

Dear Mel,

My parents are selling our house and I am beyond upset. I've lived here for almost 10 years. I simply cannot imagine moving. How can I convince them not to move??

Dear Beyond Upset,

I've got a little story for you. My house is on the market, too. The other day I was reading my mom's text messages and I stumbled across one from our realtor - "they love the house and want to put something on paper asap". Well, that just wasn't going to fly with me. So I hastily decided to text back the realtor pretending to be my mom. I asked for the name of the potential buyers, which she promptly told me. My next step was to hit up the Yellow Pages website in search of their address. And then I was all set to write the couple a letter about how much I love my house and that I would be willing to offer them a large sum of money to back off. Well, there were two problems with my deceitful plan. One, I do not have a large sum of money. And two, what I was doing was wrong. Very wrong.
After having a little chat with my dad, I decided that my secret plan was simply too wrong to go through with. I told myself that I would just have to deal with whatever happens, because in the long run, moving would be a good thing for my family.
So, learn from my story: don't try anything tricky. You just have to accept the fact that life isn't always fair and sometimes, you need to make a sacrifice for the people you love. Moving is hard, but it's not hell.
