Dear Mel,
Ok there's this guy at my church, I really like him but he's 5 years older than me. Is that ok? I never talk to him because I get too nervous and I think he will ignore me cause he's the funny weird type! I really don't know what 2 do. And even if I would talk to him, I would feel that everybody would be staring at me cause I'm talking to him! Please help!

Dear Desperate,
I hate to say this, but I think you should keep your feelings to yourself. If you were a 25 year old and he was 30, then it would be okay. But being with a guy that is 5 years old than you in high school is not really appropriate. Think of the maturity difference! I'm sure he's been through a lot more than you have. It would be like an 8th grader dating a senior in high school. (Which I'm guessing is the case.) However, you can still be friends with this guy. Just don't expect anything to happen.
