It's 2010, let's make some resolutions!

Dear Mel,

Every year, I make a New Year's resolution to work out every day and I always fail. In fact, I've already failed: Today I didn't feel well enough to go to my gym. I'm not a chubby girl at all, I just make that resolution because I always think it'll be easy to keep. All I want is to keep a resolution, really. I'm the kind of person that likes to feel accomplished. I'm not asking how I can feel accomplished... Well, maybe I am. I just want to fulfill a resolution! Is that so much to ask? I need something that I can stick to. A new New Year's resolution. Ideas?

Dear Stumped,

On January 1st of every year, I sit down and write my New Year's resolutions. 10 of them, to be exact. Some of them are serious things that I need to work on and others are not so serious. Let's see... one of the hardcore goals that I have for 2010 is to eat healthier and exercise more. And guess what? Today, I ate a Dunkin' Donut, tuna sandwich, a McDonald's Happy Meal, a blue raspberry slushie, half a box of Junior Mints, a chocolate croissant, AND a bowl of pasta with red sauce. BLEH! So much junk food! That's one resolution that I have already failed at keeping.
But I'm not worried. There's 9 other resolutions! Such as... (#4. Learn how to play "Neon" by John Mayer on my guitar.) Or... (#6. Figure out how to get on TV. Can I guest star on Glee? Can I be interviewed by Matt Lauer?)
My mom says making one resolution is pointless. I say let's make 10 of 'em.
So, my advice to you is to make one big list of things you want to accomplish in the big 20-10. If you just set one measly goal, then you're basically setting yourself up for disappointment. If you set a bunch, then your chances of achieving are way higher. Before you know it, you'll be making the most out of 2010 like nobody's business!

  • I never make New Years resolutions.. I always seem to let myself down. I find it unnecessary.

    Same.

  • i always make sure to make them!! i agree with you, i think making a lot is always better than just making one.

  • 10 resolutions? i like 10 goals better. just something to shoot for but not to get too disappointed over.
